Quality customer service and professional standards set The Centurion Bar at Newcastle’s Central Station on the right track to pick up a top honour at the region’s 2008 Best Bar None Awards held this week in Newcastle.
The Centurion took away the coveted gold prize for Best Bar in a competition which involved over 50 pubs and clubs from the area. The awards, set up in 2005 by Newcastle City Council’s Safe Newcastle scheme and Northumbria Police, are designed to promote responsible drinking and provide a safe and enjoyable environment for customers.
Judges looking for best practice and exceptional standards awarded The Centurion top marks against a number of tough measures including drugs awareness, staff training, public safety policies and crime prevention.
Operations Manager Jason Sanderson said: “We’re all absolutely thrilled with the win. We have worked hard to create the right venue with the right atmosphere, one that can do justice to such a wonderfully *historic building like ours. The awards will now take pride of place behind the bar ”

This is the second major accolade awarded to The Centurion in recent times – The Observer newspaper recently voted the bar ‘Newcastle’s most impressive watering hole’.
